EV1 vs EV6 (USCAR) fuel injector connectors

Swapping injectors between generations is mostly a connector question. Here is how to tell the two common Bosch-style plugs apart.

PlugAlso calledHow it is retainedUsually on
EV1Jetronic, MinitimerSeparate steel wire spring clip, wide rectangular housingEV1 injectors, many 1980s–90s EFI engines
USCAR“EV6 connector”Molded press-down plastic latch, compact square housingEV6 and EV14 injectors, modern aftermarket injectors

How to identify yours

  1. Check how the plug is retained. A separate steel wire spring clip over a wide rectangular housing is the EV1 / Jetronic (Minitimer) plug. A molded plastic latch you squeeze on a compact, nearly square housing is USCAR.
  2. Read the injector part number. The plug does not prove the injector body. Confirm EV1, EV6 or EV14 from the part number on the body.
  3. Match the harness to the injector. If your harness and injector use different plugs, bridge them with the matching adapter or pigtail lead.
