Fuel injector cleaning and micro basket filter removal

The nylon micro basket filter in the top of the injector catches debris the main fuel filter lets through. Replacing it, and the seals, is the basic service for EV1/EV6 style, and EV14 types with a serviceable basket.

Step by step

  1. Remove the seals. Take off the top O-ring, the pintle cap and the lower O-ring. Discard the old seals.
  2. Pull the micro basket filter. Thread the removal tool into the old basket filter in the top inlet and pull it straight out. Do not reuse the old filter. Some EV14s have non-removable filters; if yours does, skip the filter steps.
  3. Clean the injector body. Clean the outside of the injector and the inlet with a suitable fuel-system cleaner and a soft brush, then let it dry. Ultrasonic cleaning and flow testing by a specialist is the next step for clogged or uneven injectors.
  4. Fit a new filter. Press a new micro basket filter into the inlet squarely until it is fully seated.
  5. Fit new seals and pintle cap. Fit new O-rings of the correct size top and bottom and a new pintle cap, then reinstall and check for leaks.

FAQ

Does the tool damage the injector?

Used with steady, straight pull — no prying, no heat — the risk of nozzle or bore damage is minimized compared with prying or heating methods.

Which filters fit the tool?

Our removal tool is for top-feed injectors that use a ~6 mm OD nylon micro basket filter: EV1/EV6 style, and EV14 types with a serviceable basket. Some EV14s have non-removable filters. Verify part numbers before service.

Which O-rings should I use with ethanol fuel?

Our FKM O-rings are for gasoline and E10 only — not E85 or flex fuel.
